Indexing Interpolated Time Sequences
نویسندگان
چکیده
A time sequence is a discrete sequence of values, e.g. temperature measurements, varying over time. By applying an interpolation function a discrete time sequence can be coerced into a continues function over time, F(t), which we call an interpolated time sequence. Many applications need to deal with querying interpolated time sequences. Simple queries involve finding F(t’) for a given time point t’, which are easy to support using regular ordered indexes. The main contribution of this paper is a new index structure, the interpolation index (IP-index) which supports efficient retrievals of those time points t where F(t) = v’ for a given v’, i.e. efficient computation of interpolated inverse queries, F-1(v’). Performance measures show that the IPindex radically improves the search time for interpolated inverse queries. It is also shown that the insertion time of the IPindex for most periodic time sequences has an upper limit, and for largely monotonic sequences it is logarithmic.

Video Subject Inpainting: A Posture-Based Method
Despite recent advances in video inpainting techniques, reconstructing large missing regions of a moving subject while its scale changes remains an elusive goal. In this paper, we have introduced a scale-change invariant method for large missing regions to tackle this problem. Using this framework, first the moving foreground is separated from the background and its scale is equalized. Then, a ...
متن کاملEfficient Similarity Search for Time Series Data Based on the Minimum Distance
We address the problem of efficient similarity search based on the minimum distance in large time series databases. Most of previous work is focused on similarity matching and retrieval of time series based on the Euclidean distance. However, as we demonstrate in this paper, the Euclidean distance has limitations as a similarity measurement. It is sensitive to the absolute offsets of time seque...
متن کاملDelayed pitch comparisons and the principle of proximity.
Subjects compared the pitches of two tones which were separated by a retention interval during which six extra tones were interpolated. The effects were studied of varying the sizes of the melodic intervals formed by the successive tones of the interpolated sequence. It was found that error rates were lower when the interpolated sequences were composed of smaller melodic intervals; and it was a...
متن کاملTemporal aspects of stimulus-driven attending in dynamic arrays.
Auditory sequences of tones were used to examine a form of stimulus-driven attending that involves temporal expectancies and is influenced by stimulus rhythm. Three experiments examined the influence of sequence timing on comparative pitch judgments of two tones (standard, comparison) separated by interpolated pitches. In two of the experiments, interpolated tones were regularly timed, with ons...
متن کاملFixed Sequences for a Generalization of the Binomial Interpolated Operator and for some Other Operators
This paper is devoted to the study of eigen-sequences for some important operators acting on sequences. Using functional equations involving generating functions, we completely solve the problem of characterizing the fixed sequences for the Generalized Binomial operator. We give some applications to integer sequences. In particular we show how we can generate fixed sequences for Generalized Bin...
